Many men, including gay men, struggle with loneliness, isolation, and feeling disconnected in their relationships. Focused on interpersonal dynamics, group therapy can help you understand how you relate to others and explore what might be keeping you from deeper connection.

Many people feel hesitant about group therapy, especially when it comes to opening up around other men. What members usually discover is that this becomes one of the most meaningful aspects of the work. Being in a space where your identity is understood without needing to explain it can be both grounding and transformative.

In this group, we work with what’s happening between members in the present moment. Rather than focusing on outside stories, we explore how you respond to others in real time—often in ways that mirror patterns from dating, friendships, or family relationships. With my guidance and feedback from the group, you’ll have the opportunity to notice these patterns and experiment with different ways of connecting.

Sessions center on your real-time reactions, feelings, and interactions. You’ll share what’s coming up for you, respond to others, and reflect on relational patterns as they emerge. These moments become the foundation for insight and growth. This isn’t a casual support circle. It’s a structured therapy group aimed at helping you develop self-awareness and practice more authentic connection, both inside the group and in your life outside of it.

Common Questions

What happens in a typical group session?
Group sessions focus on what’s happening between members in the present moment. Instead of storytelling about outside events, the group explores real-time reactions, emotions, and interactions that arise during the session. You’ll notice how you respond to others, share your experience, and reflect on patterns with support from me and the group. These real-time moments are where much of the learning and change happens.

Will I have to share personal details right away?
No. You can share at your own pace. Most people start by listening and open up gradually as they feel safer. There’s no pressure to share more than you’re ready for.

What if I don’t like someone in the group?
That’s common and worth exploring. Often, your reactions to other members mirror patterns from your personal relationships. We’ll use these moments as opportunities for reflection and growth.

How confidential is group therapy?
Confidentiality is essential. All members agree to strict confidentiality before joining and are expected to respect that agreement throughout their time in group.

How long are people typically in group?
It varies. Some people participate for several months, others for a year or longer. We’ll discuss what feels appropriate for your needs. New members join as openings arise.

Am I expected to attend every week?
Yes, consistency is important for building a cohesive group dynamic. Sporadic attendance can disrupt the group’s progress, so weekly attendance is encouraged. That’s why members pay by the month rather than by the session. Missing an occasional session is understandable, but if you miss more than two consecutive sessions, I’ll likely check in with you about your ongoing participation.
